WHERE ARE YOU BASED?

Although we do not currently have an office located in the marina, we are more than happy to arrange a meeting to discuss your booking beforehand if needs be.

WHERE DO WE MEET?

The Urangan Marina, public boat ramps are our base location for hire launch and retrievals. Our tinnies and poly fishing boat can also be delivered to other Hervey Bay boat ramps on request, these include River Heads, Gatakers Bay and Burrum Heads. River Heads is the best alternative location if weather/wind conditions are unfavourable at Urangan.

WHAT ARE YOUR HIRE HOURS?

All hire vessels can begin as early as 7.00am. All vessels are required to be returned by no later than 4.00pm for final inspection, refueling and cleaning. Day hire is 4-9 hours. We have a 3hr minimum hire timeframe. All vessels are only available for hire during daylight hours. Multi-day trailered hires are restricted to daylight hour use as well.

DO I NEED A BOAT LICENSE?

Yes and no. Our 6hp tinnies do not require a marine license. For hire of our 30hp and 140hp vessels, an Marine License is required and must be sighted on the day of hire.

DO YOU ACCEPT OVERSEAS BOAT LICENSES?

WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BOAT?

The hirer/skipper, licensed or unlicensed is responsible for the boat and the passengers he/she has onboard, is includes adhering to our Terms of Service, operational zones, weather conditions, use of life jackets, damages, lost property, collisions, rescue fees, fines incurred by authority figures, etc. The vessel is never to be left unattended, the hirer/skipper must be present upon return of vessel to a Blue Sky Representative.

DO YOU ACCEPT EFTPOS?

We use a mobile payment processing app on a tablet which can accept credit and debit card payments onsite. If booking through the website you will be required to pay online to confirm and secure your booking. NOTE: All bonds owing are required to be paid in cash prior to hire commencing.

DOES FUEL COST EXTRA?

Our tinnies and poly fishing boats all come with fuel included in hire fees and you are not required to refuel the tank. However, fuel is additional for the pontoon boat, this is payable upon return of hire via the Marina bowser.

I NEED FISHING GEAR, CAN YOU PROVIDE THIS?

Fishing rods and basic tackle are included with hire of any vessel upon request, as well as hand reels, bait board, lading net and esky for no additional fee.

CAN I GO TO FRASER ISLAND?

Operation is confined to the partially smooth water limits of Burrum Heads to River Heads and across to Fraser Island, just above Moon Point. Operational zoning maps are provided upon hire and also available through the website blog.

WHERE CAN I TAKE A TINNY?

Operation is confined to the smooth water limits of Hervey Bay from Burrum Heads to River Heads within .5nm offshore. Smooth waters up to 10 knots. Operational zoning maps are provided upon hire and also available through the websites gallery.

WHAT SAFETY EQUIPMENT IS INCLUDED, DO I NEED TO BRING ANY?

All safety gear is supplied by Blue Sky Boat Hire as required by Queensland Maritime Safety Regulations. We will go through a safety briefing with you prior to commencing your hire.

WHO CLEANS THE BOAT AFTER HIRE?

As our service is ‘walk on, walk off’, the hirer/skipper is not required to wash the boat or flush the engine. However, it is a requirement that all rubbish, food and bait items be disposed of by the hirer/skipper.

CAN THE BOAT SINK?

Essentially, no. Our boats are compliant to Queensland standards and have Positive Level Flotation design and construction making them virtually unsinkable.

ARE THE BOATS REGULARLY INSPECTED?

Yes all of our boats are inspected and documented before and after every hire by a representative of Blue Sky Boat Hire. These inspections assess for damage, lost and found property, repairs and maintenance. A failed return inspection may result in bonds forfeited pending individual hire circumstances.

AM I COVERED BY INSURANCE?

All of our vessels, including kayaks are covered by comprehensive commercial insurance and public liability marine insurance up to $20,000,000. In the event of an incident, excess fees and an admin fee may be applied to your account.

ANY LOCATION RESTRICTIONS?

Unlicensed vessels are restricted to smooth waters only, 0.5nm/960m offshore. Licensed vessels can go into partially smooth waters but must remain within Blue Sky's Designated Operational Areas. Maps are provided upon hire and also available via our Blog, clearly stating all boundaries. Conservation zones apply to the waters of Hervey Bay - The Great Sandy Strait Marine Park. These zones and rules are enforced by law. Including go slow zones, no go zones, no fishing zones and fishing hooks/rods limit zones. It is the sole responsibility of the hirer/skipper to ensure correct conduct is upheld throughout hire.
