As Hervey Bay is roughly 500km south of the Tropic of Capricorn, our location boasts a beautiful subtropical climate, resulting in gorgeous weather throughout almost the entire year. With its perfect subtropical climate, fishing in Hervey Bay will result in a decent catch almost every single day of the year.
Potentially one of the most exciting fish to catch is the Giant Travelly. Located along Fraser Island, the Giant Travelly is a predatory fish that hunts in schools. Not only are they speedy massively strong, but they grow to a maximum of 70cm in length and 80kg in weight, making them incredibly fun to catch.
If you’re more of an experienced fisherman or fisherwoman and are looking for a challenge whilst on your fishing trip, we would highly recommend trying to catch a Whiting. Not only are they incredibly fast, but Whitings are also well-known for putting up a fighting and ripping line of your fishing reel. A Whiting can be caught year-round, meaning that if you were not successful in catching one the first time round, you can always come back at any point in the year to try again!
In addition to these popular fish, Hervey Bay and Fraser Island are home to a wide variety of species of fish, including: Golden Travelly; Bream; Flathead; Reds; Snapper; Mackerel – the list goes on and on and on!
Although you are free to fish to your heart’s content, it is important to take note of certain regulated areas that could prevent you from catching certain species of fish. For example, from 1st August to 30th September every year, the closure applies to taking fin fish only. These regulated waters are there to protect species of fish at vulnerable points during their life cycle, such as spawning seasons.
We are happy to provide you with all of your fishing essentials such as fishing rods and basic tackle – all you need to bring with you is ice and bait, and maybe some sun cream. We’ll see you out on the water!
